remember what's important - proverbs series PDF Print E-mail

It seems like sometimes we just need to unpack the meaning of “reputation”.  I would translate it as a ”good person”, someone worthy of respect.  We’re not talking about the superficial appearance and hypocricy aspect or other people’s opinions.  It is who you really are.  Ultimately, people see through the shallow pretense anyway.  Be the kind of person you would be comfortable being around.
Here’s an example: Someone could become wealthy by compromising principles, but would lose the respect of those who know them.  Better to be true to yourself - a more important value than wealth - there are some things money can’t buy.

Relevant scripture: Matt 16:26 - What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
