What/Where is the Firehouse Theatre?

The Firehouse Theater is the film and performance venue of Lubbock's own Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts(LHUCA).  Since its inception, the LHUCA has offered inspiration, incubation, collaboration and creation to the arts community on the South Plains.  The center has fast become the hub for local art and creativity.  The space where the Firehouse Theatre currently resides once served as the main garage for the Lubbock Fire Department's central firehouse.  The LHUCA transformed the old fire engine garage bay into an intimate performance setting. Our Aldersgate|Porchlight community is so excited to be able to meet in the Firehouse and be a part of this rich culture in downtown Lubbock.  The Firehouse Theatre and the LHUCA are located at the corner of 6th and Avenue K. Why are we moving?

Well, there are a few reasons that our Aldersgate|Porchlight community has decided to move.  One reason is size.  Our current location on 34th street is just too big for the Porchlight family.  We really only use one quarter of the facility...and only on one day a week.  The Firehouse Theatre is a more suitable space for our little community.  Another reason we're moving?  Well to be honest, one of the main reasons is...money.  But not for the reason you think.  Aldersgate|Porchlight is committed to live in relationship with God, love people genuinely, and be a part of bringing the hope Jesus offers to the world.  And its hard to really be committed to all those things if most of your money and resources are spent on your building instead of being spent on behalf of those we are called to love. We feel a strong conviction to use our resources in a way that is more in line with our commitments.  Meeting at the Firehouse Theatre allows our community to more freely bring love to the unlovely and hope to the hopeless.  Plus, with the Firehouse's friendly staff, rich culture, and intimate and contemporary atmosphere...we think we think we've made a great choice.
