aldersgate|porchlight hope. projects Hope for Malaria This is our very first hope project. And we are so excited to be able offer hope to the people effected by Malaria. Malaria is one of the world's most wide spread diseases. Each year 350–500 million cases of malaria occur worldwide, and over one million people die, most of them young children in sub-Saharan Africa. Like HIV/AIDS, malaria is particularly deadly in areas of extreme poverty and poor hygiene. However, unlike AIDS, Malaria is easily preventable and curable. Since most transmissions of malaria occur at night, via mosquito bite, treated mosquito nets are highly effective at preventing the disease. That's right, a simple bed net will save these people from this horrible disease.
Aldersgate|Porchlight has joined with the Nothing But Nets campaign to provide bed nets to the people of sub-Saharan Africa. Nothing But Nets has developed an amazingly efficient and inexpensive process for providing these nets. They are able to do all of the leg work. They purchase and ship the nets, as well as train families on proper use. And they can do it all for $10 per net. That's where we come in! We have pledged to provide 500 nets to those in need over the course of June, July and August. We will raise money any way we can. Fundraisers, donations, t-shirt sales, concerts...it's all game! And we need your help! Join us as we seek to provide hope to those threatened by malaria. Visit our Sunday gatherings for more information!
